A solid OS
I set a new personal record today. Actually, 4 people in out department set new personal records today. We all spent some of the day today working on a laptop, a laptop that was by far the worst case of virus/spyware infection that any of us have ever personally witnessed. Toward the end of the day, when the 4 of us who took turns “cleaning” stuff off this machine were comparing notes on the total chaos that this machine had become, one of our coworkers pointed out that you had to give Microsoft credit. That laptop had over 130 virus and trojan infected files, over 300 identified adware/spyware files, 10-15 “run” entries in the registry and close to 30 junk programs that needed to be removed from Add/Remove programs, and despite all of that crap being on it, when you turned the power on, Windows XP still booted.
I suppose there’s something to be said for that. 😉
You know, there’s a reason your IT people recommend doing things like updating your AV definitions and Windows patches, not downloading any old game you find on-line, looking out for “extras” that come along with downloads, etc. When you do none of those things, this is what you end up with.
