Email thoughts

A reader emails: (Gee I sound all important, don’t I? *L*)

“Some IT-ers will wear T-shirts saying, “NO I will NOT fix your computer”

Personally, I love doing that. I get a charge out of it. I’d volunteer to do it.

I noticed my brother-in-law needed a bit of help with his, so I volunteered my help, which he accepted.

I reset his computer’s clock, and adjusted his Outlook to delete an outdated account. Perhaps a minute or two of effort on my part.

He was really grateful and thanked me. I enjoyed doing it. “

I’m sort of in the middle on this one. Most times I do enjoy helping someone get a computer working, but other times I really, really don’t want to be bothered! There are just simply times where I don’t even want to mess around with my own computers, let alone someone else’s. I’m a geek, yet there are times where something else has my interest, I admit it. 🙂

And as much as I hate to admit this too, sometimes it depends on who’s asking for help. Some people are very appreciative and happy when I help them and that gives me quite a little buzz. Others, well, they want to tell you how to fix it, or challenge what you’re doing and just generally aren’t what you’d expect from someone you’re volunteering to help. For those people, I want the t-shirt!

It looks like, unless something drastically changes over the next three weeks, that the drive to Gnomedex this year will be part of a much larger, and longer, vacation plan. This has been a great weekend for us. We’ve been out, doing fun things, and I’ve had a boatload of opportunities for pictures.
