A reader emails: (Gee I sound all important, don’t I? *L*)

“Some IT-ers will wear T-shirts saying, “NO I will NOT fix your computer”

Personally, I love doing that. I get a charge out of it. I’d volunteer to do it.

I noticed my brother-in-law needed a bit of help with his, so I volunteered my help, which he accepted.

I reset his computer’s clock, and adjusted his Outlook to delete an outdated account. Perhaps a minute or two of effort on my part.

He was really grateful and thanked me. I enjoyed doing it. “

I’m sort of in the middle on this one. Most times I do enjoy helping someone get a computer working, but other times I really, really don’t want to be bothered! There are just simply times where I don’t even want to mess around with my own computers, let alone someone else’s. I’m a geek, yet there are times where something else has my interest, I admit it. 🙂

And as much as I hate to admit this too, sometimes it depends on who’s asking for help. Some people are very appreciative and happy when I help them and that gives me quite a little buzz. Others, well, they want to tell you how to fix it, or challenge what you’re doing and just generally aren’t what you’d expect from someone you’re volunteering to help. For those people, I want the t-shirt!

A couple of new releases that I noticed today, first there’s Mozilla 1.2Beta, which I will probably not be trying out for a little while, at least, but I’m sure someone else already has it. Secondly there’s Mailwasher 2.0Beta, which features hotmail support. As I said when I first installed Mailwasher on my home PC,…

  • Eldred vs Ashcroft

I’ve been reading some of the eyewitness reports on the oral arguments in this case that took place yesterday at the Supreme Court, and I have a question. Maybe not a legal question, but certainly a common sense one. If the Constitutional limits on Congress, in terms of copyright, are “copyrights must be limited in…

  • Anti-spyware

Caught this mentioned in the Langa Letter. Grisoft, the company that has offered a “free for personal use” AVG anti-virus for years, is now offering an anti-spyware tool called ewido. Like AVG, there is a version that is free for personal use, and there’s a paid “Pro” version with a bit more functionality. Apparently this…

  • Change over

Looks like Blogger switched me over to their new system this evening. I am now checking to make sure everything works, please let me know if you find something that doesn’t! Update: Looks like comments work, BloggerPro set my defaults to Pacific Time and to not publish the RSS feed, so if you’ve been switched…

  • Home again

Back home tonight, unloading pics from various sources, CF and SD cards, pics that had already been transferred to the laptop, etc. I took a lot more film than usual for this trip, mostly because I had a disposable water-proof Kodak that I was using while in the ocean. We’ll see how those turn out…
