Linked – Vast Majority of CEOs Ready to Make Remote Workers’ Lives As Miserable As Possible

    ByMike McBride October 7, 2024October 7, 2024 Reading Time: 1 minute

Remote workforces require CEOs to develop measurements to tell who is getting work done and who isn’t. Apparently, for 89% of them, that’s too hard.

Reminder: They get paid, on average, 344 times the average worker but can’t be bothered to measure productivity meaningfully.

So, to the 11% who are not planning on this behavior, I hope you find the best talent on the market because you are not limited by who can be in the office and run circles around these dinosaurs.

My new browser of choice – ARC

    ByMike McBride October 4, 2024October 10, 2024 Reading Time: 2 minutes

Simply put, I can’t log in and out of accounts all day, and I also don’t want to deal with my computer running out of memory. I spent many years walking that thin line. So, I was intrigued when I saw someone talking about a new browser they were using that was easy to use with multiple profiles and optimized for memory usage. I was skeptical but intrigued enough to give it a try.

That browser was Arc for Mac.

Nike’s new CEO seems like the career ladder is still intact, but even his story shows us it’s not.

    ByMike McBride September 27, 2024September 26, 2024 Reading Time: 1 minute

I wish him well, but let’s not pretend like this story of going from an internship to running the company is possible. It wasn’t technically possible for him either.

If Hill had not left, it’s entirely possible he would have been laid off in July, like many other senior leaders at Nike.

Dealing with OneDrive for Business Is Challenging, Disabling it isn’t the Answer

    ByMike McBride September 26, 2024September 26, 2024 Reading Time: 3 minutes

Turning off OneDrive would eliminate this risk and all opportunities to collaborate in Teams and OneDrive. Is it really worth it?

One Huge Challenge with M365 for Admins – An Example

    ByMike McBride September 20, 2024September 20, 2024 Reading Time: 3 minutes

It’s a huge challenge. We have no control over updates, and Microsoft is increasingly releasing new features before they build out the compliance tools that would allow us to manage them. As Tony pointed out above, agents may have critical impacts on current security and data privacy work. No matter, it’s coming. Figure it out.

As I mentioned during the ILTA session last month, I don’t see how organizations will function without a dedicated staff to monitor and communicate changes. Consider just how much work is involved in understanding Copilot and all of the compliance issues surrounding the use of AI, then consider how fast Microsoft is rolling out new Copilot features. It’s been a moving target since day one.

It’s only a small part of the M365 environment.

Linked – AI Agents Come For White Collar Jobs

    ByMike McBride September 18, 2024September 18, 2024 Reading Time: 2 minutes

How often have we watched a C-level person from Microsoft remind us that AI will not take our jobs but help us do our jobs better? It was there to assist us, not work for us.

“It’s even in the name, Copilot.”

When I heard them talk about agents being our team members and eventually managing other agents and their tasks, I immediately thought this was no longer a copilot. If it’s a team member, that means fewer human team members to do the work.
