Linked: Malicious Office 365 Apps Are the Ultimate Insiders

    ByMike McBride May 10, 2021May 9, 2021 Reading Time: 1 minute

This is the danger. As someone who spends a lot of time working with M365, and with clients trying to manage those environments, apps are one area that scare me a little. This is one reason, as people get so used to apps being available and pushed out by their M365 admins, they stop being…

Linked: In Praise of Doing Nothing

    ByMike McBride May 7, 2021May 7, 2021 Reading Time: 2 minutes

I’m sure these statistics will not surprise anyone: “American workers’ productivity has increased dramatically since 1973. What has also increased sharply during that same period is the pay gap between productivity and pay. While productivity between 1973 and 2016 has increased by 73.7 percent, hourly pay has increased by only 12.5 percent. In other words,…

Linked: They Told Their Therapists Everything. Hackers Leaked It All

    ByMike McBride May 5, 2021May 5, 2021 Reading Time: 1 minute

This is a frightening story. How many patients see their therapist without giving a second thought to where, and how, the therapist is keeping their notes. Probably not many. But, it can make a big difference, because if it’s not secure, those are your deepest, most private, conversations out there for all the world to see.

Linked: Feeling Burnt Out? Maybe It’s Because You Haven’t Taken A Real Day Off In A Year

    ByMike McBride May 3, 2021May 3, 2021 Reading Time: 1 minute

Take time off, real time off, not “no meetings during the day but catching up on emails for 4 hours that evening” time off, actual disconnected, unreachable, time away from work. And, encourage the people who work for you to do exactly that too.

Culture is Defined by the Worst Behavior Tolerated

    ByMike McBride April 30, 2021April 24, 2025 Reading Time: 4 minutes

I wish I could take credit for the line in the title. But, I can’t. It has, however, been rumbling around in my brain for the past couple of days since I heard John Amaechi say it on a recent episode of Adam Grant’s podcast “Worklife” (Go listen to the whole episode, it’s very thought-provoking)

In an episode about how to build an anti-racist workplace, this was the line that sort of stopped not only me, but Adam as well. And, I think it applies to much more than anti-racism.

Linked: Why The 2021 ‘Turnover Tsunami’ Is Happening And What Business Leaders Can Do To Prepare

    ByMike McBride April 28, 2021April 28, 2021 Reading Time: 3 minutes

Sadly, most of the mentions I’ve seen of these issues place the blame squarely outside of the employer. It’s the government’s fault for being too generous with stimulus checks and unemployment benefits, it’s the lockdowns and working from home, it’s the lack of daycare options, etc.

What they all fail to mention, that this article at least starts to recognize, is that there are actually a lot of things employers could do.
