Practice makes perfect

Like anything in life, as well as technology, the best way to learn and get better at something is to practice it. I’m looking forward this weekend to getting a whole lot of practice with photography this weekend. While plenty of folks who’ve seen my abilities with landscape photography, and I’m fairly proud of how much better I’ve gotten at that the last few years, I know I have some serious deficiencies when it comes to other areas of photography. Tomorrow, I’m taking the Minolta D50 to our company picnic. That will give me an opportunity, I hope, to get some more practice shooting people, and activity as well as using the new zoom lens I boght for it a little while ago. I simply don’t get many opportunities to do that. (I’m pretty shy, so asking people if I could take their picture to get practice just isn’t really a very good option for me. There will be people I know there with their kids, seems like a good chance to take pictures of kids and provide them to the parents, assuming they turn out well.)

Then on Sunday, with the Star Wars exhibit I talked about yesterday, Angela and I will both probably be armed with cameras trying to capture more indoors-type stuff in new and imaginative ways.

Hopefully, a little practice will help me get better and better at something I thoroughly enjoy doing. It’s something to keep in mind when working with technology as well. There’s no replacement for hands-on practice.

One other thing before I go back to installing software. Email to this domain seems to be slow, at best. That might make it seem like I’m being slow, and well, I am, but not as slow as this makes me look! *L* Follow these topics: Uncategorized

*Please note the tongue-in-cheek look I have as I write this, it’s just a joke, m’kay?* Angela caught a glimpse of the TreeBlog a couple of days ago and decided to take a picture of our Christmas tree and send it in, (she’s proud of our little tree, what can I say?) submitted by both…

  • No more public domain?

According to Lessig that’s exactly what may happen in Mexico: “The Mexican Congress is about to consider a revision to its copyright law. Among it many changes, the law will extend the term of copyright from life-plus-70 to life-plus-100. (And no doubt thus beginning yet another cycle of “harmonization” around the world.) Worse, at the…

  • They don’t expect me to work like this do they?

We’re having some plumbing work done this morning. They’ve turned off all the water to the building, at least for the early part of the morning. That means no coffee. How can I be expected to work with no coffee? 🙂 Update: 9:45AM Water’s back on and there is the sweet heat of coffee in…

Only because some one asked, let me reiterate that if you look way down there on the bottom left-hand side of the page, you’ll see a link to the Creative Commons. If you follow the link, you can get a look at the simple “licensing” structure I have in place for this blog and what…

  • I hate RealPlayer

Yes, I’ve pretty much hated RealPlayer for a long time now, but today I hate it more! I hate having to uncheck a gazillion options to make sure I don’t get inundated with “special offers and promotions”. I hate that, for some reason, version 8 doesn’t update just a codec any longer when it runs…
