After work, work..

Since I was already in the “web programming” mood when I got home, what with the ATOM feed on Angela’s blog, and since the DNS seems to have caught up with the server move on the child abuse site, I went ahead and upgraded the Movable Type installation over there, and added an atom feed to the list of choices. The whole RSS vs ATOM thing makes no sense to me, as a non-programmer. I just want to be able to subscribe to feeds and read my news in my aggregator! My hope is that with Blogger now defaulting to ATOM that the aggregator programmers will soon be making their tools work with both. If not, I’ll have to hit the list of current apps that do work with both and go through the whole process of finding a new one to use. As a producer of a feed I just want to able to let folks read my site any way they want. I wish blogger would allow me to publish both, the way MT does. Maybe someday! (Or maybe someday I’ll switch this site to a host that’ll support MT!)

By the way, I also upgraded to the newest version of MT Blacklist over there. What a great, great plug-in.

  • More upgrade woes

So, Wednesday of this week, I noticed that the Bravenet counters were offline for an upgrade. Yesterday it seemed like they were back with the “new and improved” bravenet, but nothing really seemed to work very well, so I figured they had some bugs in the upgrade. Today everything seems to be working, but their…

For those of you who might care, the Columbus Airport has free wi-fi available at SSID: CMH. I only discovered this last night when I saw a sign that pointed it out to me in the baggage claim area. That was cool, I was able to grab my PocketPC and check for any “emergency” emails…

  • Thanks!

Thanks to a suggestion from Anita, I found a different referrer script that, while still not running locally, at least did include instructions on how to limit the number of characters it shows of a title. That should keep the table layout from getting screwy. I’ll tweak it as referrers start showing up and I…

  • He’s a coding fool..

OK, good night’s sleep last night, mood much better, let’s get to blogging! 🙂 The coding fool I’m talking about, by the way is Josh, aka nf0. In the last few days he’s written a couple of really useful scripts, eBayTools, which lets you “take a list of items, search ebay, and create an RSS…

  • Counting on that email?

Remember how I was telling you about our work ISP and the fact that they simply stopped sending bounces for bad email addresses? I have been working on a “tip of the week” for next week and trying to explain to our users that email is not reliable, that if they don’t get a reply…

  • Help is for experts

Interesting observation about using Help by Jensen Harris today: One of the most interesting epiphanies I’ve had over the last few years seems on the surface like a paradox: “help” in Office is mostly used by experts and enthusiasts. How can this be? I think my biased assumption was that experts know how to use…
