Holiday Party

We survived my office holiday party last night. As they say back in my old neighborhood, there was no gun play so it was a good party! (No that’s not a trivial matter, there is quite a bit of animosity between various people in my office. *L*)

Seriously though, the food was alright, (although Angela and I were both up in the middle of the night not feeling well, so I don’t think we’ll be hitting that particular place to eat again..) but the setup really didn’t allow you to get around and talk to anyone other than the few people you happened to be sitting right by. (That is a plus and minus, see animosity above..) Of course the fact that the other part of the party was the after-dinner movie and most people rushed out immediately after eating to see LOTR: The Two Towers, made trying to socialize sort of pointless anyway. No we did not take advantage of the LOTR tickets, instead choosing to take our free movie passes and save them for another day. I haven’t even seen the first LOTR and have no real interest in this one either. It’s just not my thing, I don’t do fantasy realms. (Including LOTR, Harry Potter and Star Trek, which cut out three of our movie choices right off the top *L*)

Yeah I know, a computer geek who doesn’t like Star Trek or LOTR. What can I say, I like to be different. 🙂

Ah so I see my point about real-time blogging at conferences being a bad idea has reached Robert Scoble’s eyes today. He says: So, your boss doesn’t want you to take notes next time he pays you to go to a conference? No, actually, I’m sure my boss does want me to take notes, since…

Are extensions the killer feature in Firefox? Absolutely. I’ve used IE7 a bit. It’s slow, but sometimes Firefox is too. It has tabs, it’s relatively secure compared to IE6, it has a pop-up blocker built in, it has pretty decent cookie and password management built in. In a nutshell, it has many of the same…

I couldn’t get to my own child abuse site at the airport the other day. I’m sure they use some sort of filtering software, and I’m sure that it’s the same filtering software used by various schools and libraries. So, while it not being available from the airport is only a minor inconvenience, a kid…
