Am I missing something?

I was reviewing some exam questions for the A+ exam over my lunch today, using the practice tests included with Mike Meyers’ A+ Certification Passport. It’s a decent book and the practice tests seem decent, but one of the questions had to do with someone who’s new email client could get incoming email but couldn’t send any email. Two of the possible answers were incorrect SMTP settings and incorrect POP3 settings. It gave the correct answer as incorrect POP3 settings. It even gave an explanation of the answer as “The POP3 settings are used for sending mail. Libby did not set her POP3 server settings correctly.”

I’ve setup an awful lot of email clients in my time and every one of them lists POP3 as incoming and SMTP as outgoing. 🙂 Maybe I’m just losing my freakin’ mind!

Given the date, I’m a little skeptical of everything I’m reading today. After reading about Kevin leaving In the Trenches I am on high alert for any kind of April Fool’s joke. The most interesting thing I saw was the Virtual Server that would let businesses migrate to 2003 but still have a place to run legacy applications that aren’t compatible with 2003. That one, I think, will be…

So I got here this morning, and our internet connection was still down. The nice folks at the phone company did get it working just before 9AM, approximately 20 hours or so after they did something to cause the problem to begin with. Now everyone can get back to online shopping, online banking, sending personal…
